these \u201cMillennials?\u00a0 Overly pampered, participation-trophy-hugging, hippie-hipster crybabies?\u00a0 Awkward creatures dependent upon cell phones and social media for life?\u00a0 Or, are they the \u201c<span style=\"color: #bb2025;\"><a style=\"color: #bb2025;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bcgperspectives.com\/content\/articles\/consumer_insight_marketing_millennial_consumer\/\" target=\"_blank\">Gadget Gurus<\/a><\/span>\u201d and social activists that are not only redefining the workplace\u00a0but reshaping the world?\u00a0 Different generations may want to paint them as this or that, but the simple matter is that Millennials defy (often intentionally) expectations and definitions.<a href=\"https:\/\/meetingone.adobeconnect.com\/_a41854534\/p7ox0wjt78w\/?launcher=false&amp;fcsContent=true&amp;pbMode=normal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4725\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4725\" src=\"https:\/\/www.meetingone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Multi-generational-team-300x225.png\" alt=\"Multi-generational-team\" width=\"388\" height=\"291\" \/><\/a><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In an interesting study, IBM found that this generation wants the same <span style=\"color: #bb2025;\"><a style=\"color: #bb2025;\" href=\"http:\/\/www-935.ibm.com\/services\/us\/gbs\/thoughtleadership\/millennialworkplace\/\" target=\"_blank\">basic things<\/a><\/span> in the workplace: managers that are ethical, work that is meaningful, and an opportunity to impact their employer. \u00a0Millennials are <span style=\"color: #bb2025;\"><a style=\"color: #bb2025;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.avds.com\/images\/blog\/UNC_Millenials_Workplace_Study.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">most motivated by<\/a><\/span> (and do the best work for) supervisors who make work meaningful, encourage collaboration, and promote discussion.\u00a0 Think of them as painters, eager to create and moved by passion.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">How are you or your company providing for this generation?\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #bb2025;\">We all know Millennials are quite comfortable with technology.\u00a0 So, here\u2019s a suggestion: incorporate modes of online training and web conferencing into their work week.<\/span><\/h4>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong>Easel, Paint, and Brushes<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>When it comes to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meetingone.com\/learn\/webinars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4715\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-4715\" src=\"https:\/\/www.meetingone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Artist-reaching-for-paint-300x226.png\" alt=\"Artist reaching for paint\" width=\"276\" height=\"208\" \/><\/a>training and engaging this group, interactive technologies like web conferencing platforms provide this generation a canvas.\u00a0 Such systems offer dynamic means for engagement, a place for feedback and expression, and an ideal space to impart business purpose and direction.<\/p>\n<p>Also, note that more students are coming out of the <span style=\"color: #bb2025;\"><a style=\"color: #bb2025;\" href=\"http:\/\/er.educause.edu\/articles\/2015\/6\/whats-next-for-the-lms\" target=\"_blank\">higher education system<\/a><\/span> having used Learning Management Systems (LMS), such as Blackboard or D2L.\u00a0 Consequently, online learning is well grasped by this generation\u2014and expected.<\/p>\n<p>In the past, participation during meetings was often affected by group size.\u00a0 With an online medium like <span style=\"color: #bb2025;\"><a style=\"color: #bb2025;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.meetingone.com\/eu-en\/adobe-connect\/learning\/\" target=\"_blank\">Adobe Connect<\/a><\/span>, you can encourage all participants to contribute ideas with <strong>Chat and Poll Pods<\/strong>. \u00a0From a business standpoint, it is easy to review and utilize this feedback to better understand employees\u2019 perspectives and implement new strategies.\u00a0 Using a web platform is an excellent way to connect with Millennials!\u00a0 For other style=\"color: #bb2025;\"><a style=\"color: #bb2025;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.meetingone.com\/blog\/drive-collaboration-adobe-connect-breakout-rooms\/\" target=\"_blank\">Breakout Rooms<\/a><\/span><\/strong> to address and resolve issues and debates.\u00a0 In an online setting, your easel is rich with colors.\u00a0 Allow your creativity to drive their inspiration.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #bb2025;\"><strong>Retouching the Image<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Despite what you might think of Millennials, broad strokes fail to paint an accurate picture of Generation Y.\u00a0 They are a manageable group.\u00a0 They want to have their ideas taken seriously and their strategies considered.<\/p>\n<p>To speak metaphorically, they want to demonstrate their brushwork.\u00a0 The difficulty comes in making the right adjustments.<a
