\"PowerPoint<\/a>You can easily overload your webinar or web-based training participants with too much information. \u00a0And too little information may prove underwhelming.<\/h4>\n

Fear of \u201cDeath by PowerPoint\u201d<\/strong><\/span> has swept across corporate America, leaving many anxious about presentations at large.\u00a0 Worse yet, these info heavy meetings have proven inefficient.<\/p>\n

What about the other side of things\u2014lacking content?<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0 We\u2019ve all suffered through an impromptu meeting that is all adlibbing and no content.\u00a0 The bane of the corporate employee has become poorly constructed meetings that fail to balance content and bore them to death!<\/p>\n

Understanding Valuable Information<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

As we progress into the world of virtual training, establishing a balance of content for training\u00a0is difficult but necessary.\u00a0 Information is a tool to help manage, define and develop business-related expectations.\u00a0 The problem, then, seemingly lies in presentation.\u00a0 How are you presenting?\u00a0 Are you a PowerPoint slide hoarder?\u00a0 A talking track?\u00a0 Are you leaning too heavily on data, stats, and factoids, or terms, definitions and jargon?<\/p>\n

\u00a0Conveying information isn\u2019t the goal of training, it\u2019s a means to an end. \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n

Rather than focus on transmitting information, explore the personal value of the content you present.<\/span><\/h4>\n

Good content appreciates its audience by recognizing their needs.\u00a0 This understanding, in turn, transforms figures, ideas, and concepts into personable anecdotes or terms of professional applicability.\u00a0 From: \u201cProfessionals lose 31 hours per month in unproductive meetings,\u201d to: \u201cLet\u2019s find ways to get you those 31 hours back.\u201d\u00a0 <\/strong>Trainees will be more attuned to the training if the information has apparent value.\u00a0 So create value!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Right Balance of Content<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Now that we have a feel for good content, let\u2019s reconsider the presentation of content.\u00a0 When using a web-conferencing platform, like Adobe Connect<\/a><\/span><\/strong>, you will want to pay close attention to the tools for building a well-balanced<\/strong> training<\/strong>:<\/a> Layouts, Polls, Q&A Box, Chat Pods, Breakout Rooms, Whiteboards.\u00a0 When it comes to data and jargon, \"Pez\"these tools can help you deliver and dispense the right amount of content.<\/p>\n

Consider\u00a0handing out your content in Pez sized portions – digestible and leaves the participant wanting more!<\/span><\/h4>\n

Are you presenting a topic burdened with statistics?\u00a0 Couple figure heavy segments with periods of discussion using Chat Pods.\u00a0 This will allow individuals to digest the information you just delivered and share their own experience during the discussion.<\/p>\n

  • Take time to develop lines of reasoning, so you can ensure your participants understand how conclusions are reached.<\/li>\n
  • Move between modalities. If you start with a visual exercise, move to an auditory activity.<\/li>\n
